The Gamma Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. hosted its first annual golf tournament on April 18, 2025, at the picturesque Beech Creek Golf Course in Sumter, SC. The event was a resounding success, drawing golf enthusiasts from Camden, Columbia, Sumter and Raleigh, NC. Our distinguished guests included the illustrious Past Grand Basileus Antonio Knox of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the 40th Grand Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and The Honorable Sumter County Solicitor Chip Finney.
The tournament commenced at 8 a.m. with the registration process, where we proudly registered a total of 52 players. Gamma Iota provided a delightful light breakfast sponsored by McDonald’s, featuring coffee, juice, and fruit. Following registration, the Beech Creek staff gathered the players for instructions, and Brother Dester McClendon led a heartfelt prayer before the players embarked on their rounds of golf.
The day couldn't have been more perfect, with a gentle breeze and a comfortable temperature of 78 degrees gracing the fairways. Players savored time on the course and concluded the day with a sumptuous lunch provided by Gamma Iota, which included barbeque chicken, pasta salad, baked beans, assorted drinks donated by Coca-Cola Consolidated in Bishopville, SC., and Sevyn IV Drip Bar and Medspa generously donated desserts.
The event culminated in the presentation of trophies to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams, along with additional awards. The grand finale featured exciting giveaways that included a 50-inch TV, gift baskets, paintings, and several gift cards, all donated by local sponsors. This annual event was a tremendous success, and the Gamma Iota Chapter eagerly anticipate hosting this event again next year
